I'm sure glad to hear were converting another one over. I'm pullin a 55 model UB, thats turnin out close to 80 horse, and can really pull, not to mention we take it back home and pull a 4-14 in Missouri dirt. a Friend of mine and a faithful MM puller has a GB gas with an 800 ci MM irrigation pump motor.its really crankin out the power, and its very impressive to hear with the chrome straight pipe. hope this helps you out any and congrats on seein the light!.....Josh

I would suggest a ub it will be similiar in driving style to the m and they seem to hook better than a u or a g just be ready for them to start complaining because that is all you ever hear when you pull a MM

I dont care much for the ub's but i just got done building a div II u and we have a div III MM g and its all in how much money ya want to put in em and i'll tell ya now to make a MM u run with the G's your gonna spend more money than ya are with a g. just find whichever one ya like best and invest the best $1000 ya got on a set of 10A4232 heads and your already ahead of most of your competition. these heads are a high compresion head and are hard to find. we have 2 sets of them for ours and you cant belive the difference. most people wont spend the bucks and they get what they pay for. a real good runner can be built for $4500 give or take but MM is where the cubes are

your making a good choice getting away from that red crap. I didnt mention we have 7 deeres in the shed did i, no hard feelings

good luck

Hello and welcome to the world of MM's. These old MM's do well because they are very heavily built and have tremendous lugging ability. The engines have 5 to 6 ( or more) inch strokes and can be bored over quite a bit. I just visited with a guy the other day who had taken an old U, with a factory 283 engine, bored it an inch and stroked it an inch. That 283 engine is now 675 cubic inches! and the transmissions will take it too. The G's are bigger and heavier built, with a factor 403 engine,... the U's are smaller with the 283's. I would chhose either one for pulling. You can find nealy anything for an MM engine, as they are popular with the pullers, and several are being restored across the country,...just be prepared to part with some cash.

If he bored a 283 an inch and stroked it an inch it would only be 519 cid. 5.25 bore and a 6 inch stroke. A 5.75 bore (1.250 overbore) and a 6.5 stroke (1.5 stroke) would equal 675 cid. There is a ub running that and runs very good. not trying to be a smart a$$ just adding to the conversation.
