I have a M&M uts. The intake looks like it came off of a lp tractor. It is smaller than all of the other u tractors i have seen. it also freezes over after the tractor runs for a while, no matter if it is cool out or hot. It acts like it runs out of gas, i pulled it last year and it cut out when it got into a pull.. but i backed off of the throttle and it came back. Maybe if i put an original intake back on?? Any ideas??

The comment that the manifold is smaller than other UTS's & it will frost up when the ambient air temperature is either hot or cold does sound like it may have a resriction. When it is in a hard pull & the throttle swings open, it could be running out of breath. I can see it frosting up when it's cold outside, but not hot. Did you give it a tune-up? A condenser will usually either run or not, same as a coil. I concede this is not 100%in all instances. Graphite coil wires will break down also & give you a stumble. Timing O.K.? The ignition is the easiest thing to check first, but I still wonder if you don't have a intake problem caused by too small of intake.

You may be running out of gas. Maybe from improper carb adjustments, lack of flow to carb because of restrictions in the line or tank. Is the tank spotless? Line rubber(aged) or metal? Fuel filter large enough for required flow? How is your stand pipe in the tank built? Will you be able to get by with an electric fuel pump? Needle and seat spotless? If yours is an LP manifold keep it and fix the other problems. Another area is the ignition. Is it a points-condensor setup or have you upgraded to an electronic unit? Condensors can cause a lot of confusion. Dale

If it cuts out, I'm betting your spark isn't hot enough, or else there's trash in the carb./fuel system. I've had a round with tractors not getting enough gas in the last year. Filter screen on one, trash in carb on another. I also encountered one cutting out under load and FINALLY traced the problem to a weak coil.

Oh, and both my '49 UTS have original manifolds. They frost just above the carb. too.

I have a 47 MM UTU with the same setup. Yes mine frosts up in cold weather but not too bad when it's warm out. My tractor has never acted like it wanted to cut out. I do believe it is a LP setup.

Not much help,

Brian
