I had recently inherited a 1947 Universal form my wifes deceased father. The tractor ran before he passed 2 1/2 yrs ago. I have got it running, however when I attach a sickle bar mower or run it at an open throttle it will not stay running. It will run at idle for an extended time with no load, no clutch engaged. I have recently changed the plug wires, dist. cap, coil, and battery. I did notice that the Dist. cap wobbles a little bit, as if the Distributer shaft is bent. Does anyone know what else may be happening?

Brian is right on: its not getting gas somehow. you might want to replace the filter screen in the fuel bowl. I've seen them where you can see light through them, but let the gas dry and you can tell there's a film covering the openings.

As far as the dist. cap 'walking' goes, I'll bet the gasket is gone from under the dust cap-that's the cover that goes over the points under the distribuitor cap. It should have a paper gasket in a groove in the bottom of it between it and the dist. housing. Napa can get you a new one.

Mark,
Sounds like you're not getting enough fuel. If you haven't cleaned your carb, do so. Otherwise check the line coming from the fuel tank. It should flow quite a bit. A small trickle is not going to be enough fuel under any load. You might have something blocking the fuel outlet in your tank. At least its another place I'd be looking.

Brian
