I have a 1947 model UTU with a KEF engine. The engine is in need of an overhaul and my question is. Does the KEF engine have alot of potential, or should I consider purchasing a 283-4A engine from a newer U. I would like to keep this tractor on the mild side but a little more than stock.

Thank in advance,

Brian

Brian,I would definetly go with the split block motor as not only are there more parts available ,but you have your choice of compression ratios by just changing heads.By just changing to a tighter(combustion chamber)head that are available you can boost your power without changing pistons if you want to keep the cost down. The sky is the limit on how much horsepower and money you want to spend.

I would go with the newer engine. I would bet that there's a lot more parts available for it.
