I found what I think is a narrow front BG, as best as I can match searching through the tractor photos here at ytmag. It's in fairly rough shape, still has enough paint and faded decals to identify it as a MM. Its in the woods and will have to be towed. My first impression was "walk away, dont look back". Iv seen many sad looking tractors restored to shiny new and was wondering if I should take a second look? Is this a desirable tractor to restore and are parts avaliable? I have a Farmall Super-A now but never met a tractor I did'nt like. What do you think??

The BG is a offset model like a Farmall "A" is. The left rear axle is close to the frame on the left side and out like normal on the right. The BF has the same legnth axle on both sides. You would sit on it similar to a Farmall "C" or most tractors. On the website for our store we have a photo of each model the BG & BF on the used tractor listing. If you click on the MF tractor on the right side of the home page it will transfer you to the used page. About 5 or 6 photos down shows them. The site is www.deurimplement.com . Look at the space between the reat tire and the frame to help tell which one you have. All of the BG's I have seen have been wide front. I had and have seen a lot of narrow front BF's. The serial number for the M-M Averys were stamped in the right frame rail near the brake pedals. Check condition of the engine as Herculies engine parts are a little harder to find depending on what you need. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Pete. Im sure its a BF after looking at more pics. Now Im still wondering if I should try to get it or walk away. Are they "desirable" tractors? Im afraid I'll spend more restoring it than its worth, but hey, isn't that the case with all tractors?

In some cases it is hard to know what to do. How I try to decied sometimes is find out why it was parked. If it doesnt have any major problems like a rod out the motor or a bad trans I will consider it a lot. Then look it over to make sure it is complete. Are the rims and tin ok. Having a 3pt hitch is a big plus. I them estimate how much the parts cost will be and what it will be worth when finished. If I can break even or better I usualy get it. I dont want to get one that cost me 2 or 3 times what I could buy a restored one for of the same model. I have goten them in the past with a bad motor and looked for one with a bad rear end and put the two together to make one good one and extra parts to sell or trade. Most times it not a easy choise.
