My local antique club has had a M.M. donated to it that needs restored. They are going to have acouple of the local FFA chapter members, which I am President of, restore it. We believe it is a UTI. It has a non adjustable front end and is set up to run on LP. We need some pictures of a UTI, so we can make sure that is what we are working on, and pictures of the seat. This one has a round pipe that comes up and had an upolstered seat on it.

Dan,

My guess is that you have a UTS (U Standard), as it would have a non-adjustable wide front. UTI's and UTIL's (U Industrials) never came equipped to burn propane, but someone could have changed that over the years. If it has a hand clutch it is a UTS, a UTI would have a foot clutch. Get the serial number from the right side of the transmission case and you will know for sure. Hope this helps.

Jim

Jim, We tried looking at the tag, but there isn't much left of it. Can't even read anything on it. This has a hand clutch, probably add on hydraulics, and a pto. It doesn't have a belt pulley though. Are the fenders for a UTS different from a Z? I'll probably have more questions later, cause I like IHs and the other two working on it like JD, so we aren't exactly sure how to start out on this one.

Most pictures of UTI's I've seen had really large truck tires on the front. like 20" truck tires.

Fenders? it depends. Do your fenders bolt to 1/4" plate adapters that are bolted to the axle, or do the mounts wrap directly around the axle. (Or are they gone completely?)
Late UTS fenders were same as late Z fenders, and used the adapters. Early fenders had the mounts that wrapped around the axle and don't interchange with Zs. I think the change year for the fenders was 1950.

P.S. What side are the brake pedals on? And how many does it have? And do the hood sides have notches just below the hinges?

the piece of pipe the seat is on. Where is it fastened to the tractor?

There are a few good pictures of a UTS in the last Antique Power magazine, if you have access to it.

Kelvin, The front tires are 8.25 by 20. The fender mounts are gone, but I think it uses the adapters. We have been told that this MM was built after 1952, because of something to do with the belt pulley. Brake pedals are on the left side. I believe the hood sides have notches. The seat has been added on it. The tractor has had an M&W hand clutch for live pto added on to it.

since it has 20" front tires, its a UTI, like you said. Out of my league on this one.

Clutched Belt pulley probably was added, since most industrial tractors didn't need one. Should have a lever on top of the housing to shift it in/out of gear.

You said brake pedals were on the left. Does it also have a clutch pedal on that side too?

No clutch pedal on that side. Just a hand clutch on the right side. We drained the oil out Friday. About a cup of anti-freeze came out with the oil.
