Jetstar confusion

At an auction last week, I bought what was advertised as a MM Jetstar, gas, with wide front, PTO, and 3 point hitch. It sat on a JD dealer's lot for a couple of years before going to auction. It was prettied up, but not much money was spent on operational functions (normal procedure, right?). It has new Prairie Gold paint and new Jetstar decals on it, but the serial number is obliterated. I've learned (thru this board) that the MM 445's and the Jetstar series were very similiar tractors. Can anyone tell me of any way to confirm what model I've really got?

I own a 1961 jetstar. If you want to see a picture of it look under tractor photos. I hope this will help.

Thanks for the info. It is definitely a Jetstar, and in pretty good shape. Some minor problems, water pump, generator, carburetor, etc., but it starts instantly and runs well. It'll have a good home here. Thanks again.

Assuming we are talking about a 445 Utility vs a JetStar (or JetStar2):
The front axle of the JetStar was round tube & adjustable width. The 445 Utility front axle was made of verticle flat cast with numerous holes, similar to an 8N ford

The clutch pedal on the 445 pivoted from the front (where the adjustment was), with no clutch rod). The JetStar clutch pedal pivoted on the brake shaft and has a clutch adjusted rod running from the pedal near the brake shaft to the bell crank on the bell housing.

The platforms on the 445 are mounted lower, toward the bottom of the tranmission housing. The platforms on the JetStar are up toward the top of the trans housing. This means you sit higher on a JetStar than on a 445 utility.

The lift arms on a JetStar are one piece. Those opn a 445 have cast rear portions that originally moved to allow easier hookups to 3 Pt equipment.

Hope this helps
John

I've learned to say I think or I'm pretty sure but the Jet Star replaced both the 335 and 445 utility. The 4 star replaced the 445 universal

The most oblivous different is in the grill area. A MM 445 will have a cast iron "cross" as the main feature. A Jet Star will have just a plain screen grill. I'll try to e-mail you a couple of pictures that may help.
