I've got a '47 RTU that has been converted to 12v. I want to convert it back to 6v, I have all the original equipment for it excpet a coil. My question, are 6 and 12v coils differnent - in other words, can I use the coil on the tractor now or do I need a 6v coil? Also, the wiring is somewhat messed up. Where can I find a wiring diagram to make sure she's wired correctly. Thanks,

Kyle Sands <>< Huntley, MN

I'm thinking that if your ignition circuit to the coil has an external resistor (somewhere else in the circuit prior to the coil) you can remove it and use your present coil. If your ignition circuit doesn't have one, you might have a 12v coil with internal resistor and using it on 6v may cause ignition misfire when the throttle snaps open.

You can use a 12 volt coil on it. The voltage difference is in the starter and headlight bulbs. So if you use a 12 volt battery on anything thats 6 volts well you know what will happen.
