Am I wrong, or is the only place to ad hydraulic fluid to the 4star/super..under the seat..by taking the housing and 4 bolts off? also..there is no gasket under the lever housing..is that the way it was? or do you ad permagasket each time? thanks for your help.

My 4Star, Jetstar, BigMo400 all have a dipstick to check level and add fluid. It's located at the extreme right rear of the 3 point unit. The drain plug at the bottom was removed, a short nipple put in with a tee, a plug in the bottom of the tee, "drain", a nipple out of the top of the tee with a cap. The cap was drilled and a dipstick welded in. The level mark is then put at the right level.

David,
I have a '62 jetstar, pretty similar to 4 star. (cheaper)it has a street elbow in the front of the control valve body, with a pipe plug in it. I keep it level full, and haven't had any problems.

If your 4 star doesn't have the street elbow and pipe plug-early ones didn't-it will probably have the hydraulic filter mounted at the same location. So you will have to fill at the cover for the draft control levers, like you said.

That is where you put it and you should use a gasket I made the one on my tractor.
