I have a 220 ci motor that I just completed a rebuild on. I bored out cylinders to 3.812 instaled 160 GM valves and I am running a u-302 lp intake and exhaust with a carb off a U. The motor runs strong but it keeps sooting up the spark plugs and developing a miss. I have been pulling the tractor at local pulls and doing quite well but I cant figure out why the plugs keep fowiling.I am also running electronic ing and a hot coil. At first I thought my carb. might be to big but it wont hardly smoke. Well give me your thoughts, Thanks Chris

A couple things I can think of for starters. If you are using a Champion spark plug get rid of them. We have had a lot of problems with them. The newer grade of fuel doesnt work well with them. We have had exelent luck with the Autolite and most AC plugs. One thing more you might try is to wire a small piece of metal over the exhaust manifold and let it cover part of the intake manifold. This alows the intake air to be slightly heated which will help it run better depending on the weather conditions. If the intake frost up it will choke off the air supply some and make your fuel mix to the cylinders vary. It also would be good to check the advance springs in the distributor as the weight could flop back and forth and make the engine miss easier.
