Restored A 1954 MM GBD 6cyl and does not start well but runs great when it is warmed up. Redid the injectors, timing of the pump and engine are perfect. The pump is an American Bosh and just woundering what the pressure should be at the tranfer pump and at the top of the pump where the injector lines go into it.

The condition of your combustion chamber has much to do with it. Welters at Verona, MO are helpful in this area. I know that the valve clearance (measured with a surface micrometer) for example, the intake valve tolerance is around .040 from head surface. Worn valves that sit lower in their seats change (lower) the compression enough to make a harder starting tractor. Of course, check all the simple inexpensive stuff FIRST. Are all the high pressure fuel lines purged of air? Got any rotten hoses, screens, or dirty filters?

As a rule energy cell motors do not start well. I have 5 star diesel and when it gets cold you better have it pluged in if you want to start it. Check the energy cells that is what makes these motors work.

I might have some info from the US military on this Bosch equipment and it is quite detailed. I'll let you know. I am looking for a complete GBD. You know of any? I passed up one for $900 that had been in a barn. The man died and his sons sat it outside with the stack open and all and wanted 4500 for it. I would relly like to find a decent one (complete).
