I just recently purchased a UB and would like to know as much about it as possible. The serial number listed on the plate by the belt pully is 05803160. The engine tag reads, Model 283B 4 and serial number 06107196. Any info you guys can provide about this tractor would be appreciated. If anybody knows how many were made that year, a date when this one was made and anyother interesting info would be great!

John,
There were 1090 UBU made in 1954 (05802913-05804002). There were 5077 UBU made from 1953 to 1955. I don't believe there are any records of the exact date a particular piece of Moline equipment was produced. The year of production and possibly if its late or early in that year is as good as you can do.

Your tractor is a 1954 model. Minneapolis Moline produced the UB from 1953 through 1955. It was the replacement for the UTU which was produced beginning in 1938. The major changes in the UB from the UTU were a move from a hand clutch to a foot clutch, a raised operator's platform and an increase in horsepower.

Your serial number indicates that you have a UBU which is a narrow front end. Moline also made a UBN (single front tire), and a UBE (adjustable wide front end. These tractors were available with gasoline, diesel, or LP engines.
