My neighbor has a 600 which hasn't run since the Fall of 2000. He recently tried to get it running by jump starting it with a 12 Volt car battery. It did start, but runs rough and backfires. I think he probably fried something in the electrical system, but I don't know what or how to diagnose the problem. He did replace the coil and rebuild the carb. Would anyone know the polarity of the coil connections? The original coil was marked Bat. & Dist. The replacement is marked Pos. & Neg. Which wire goes where? Any help in getting it running would be greatly appreciated!

Art..... .your friends 600 should be 6 volt positive ground. The rule for ignition coil polarity is coil + to battery +. That means that if the battery is positive ground, then the coil + goes to the points which are at ground potential. ..... .Dell
