Ever since I changed the fluids in my NAA, the 3 pt is acting strangely under load. When using a boom pole, it won't pick up, then just move the control lever a scooch and it goes up uncontrollably to the very top. When attempting to lower the object, it won't go down, then suddenly pretty well slams it back to earth. Also, when it is up, sometimes when I put it in reverse it starts down by itself. The other weird behavior is the pump is noisy after warmup, sometimes. I have the right amount of fluid in there, Valvoline 80w-90, GL-5. What gives? The only thing I didn't do was change the fluid with the 3 pt in the raised position, which I read somewhere afterwards. Yeah,I know, gotta take off the lift cover, but what will I be looking for?

Check the archives, but I don't think that the GL-5 is recommended for the N series tractors. I seem to remember reading that GL-1 was the recommended grade (it has to do with the additive package). It has been within the last week or so that a there was a discussion about this, and I think that Dell was the one giving advice. I have had very good luck with the 134D fluid that I changed mine with last fall. The lift acts exactly as it should, and I can put it in the up position, and it will sit there overnight.

Roger:

Your O-Ring on the piston could need replaced or the Unloading valve may be sticking. Maybe Both.

Do you have an email address ?
