It's about 11:30 a.m. here in Central NY, Just talked with my dad...he said he ran his 8N through my barn doors, he's ok...not too sure about the barn though, I am heading out to see how things are...most importantly he is fine, the N is fine also...I am smiling as I wonder what he did and how the heck did he do this???...I think his pride is hurt a bit, I'll pick up some cigars on my way out to share with him...maybe I am an optimist, but I am thrilled that I can be here for my dad and help him out with things like this, glad to have him and our relationship. I'll let you know how things are later tonite.

Hey gang, thanks for the support there. Well Dad is fine and we had our cigars and I took him to get a cup of coffee and a bite to eat...and we laughed a lot.

He ran into one of the sliding barn doors with the N and for the most part it broke the door across the middle horizontal support. I can rebuild it without a lot of trouble...besides it gives me an excuse to do carpentry, which is something I know a lot about.

So I will have a patched barn door, but it won't show on the outside and the patch doesn't bother me a bit...after all I did the something similar to the side wall a while back and I am pretty sure my son will have his day too...may be an odd family trait/tradition but it's mine...

My wife doesn't get why I laugh at this, but then again she doesn't understand why I like to bush hog on my vacation days.

I think its like this...Life is too short to stress on the B.S. and for the most part it is all B.S. Have fun with life and enjoy N's...and most people won't understand you...and that's a good thing to me.

Have a cigar guys!

Thanks again.

Dave, thanks for the kind words, I don't consider myself much of a writer.

I am over near Syracuse in the burbs, Westvale...I have about 50 acres over in a town called Elbridge, about 15 miles west of Syracuse just off Route 5...it's great a barn, a stream, orchard, fields, and woods.

Are you in the area?

Be well and tkae care.

Boy, ain't that the truth. My favorite words to live by come from George Carlin:

Don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.

Glad Dad's OK and you can laugh about it.

Sal-
A couple of things; I know you realize that no one sets out to intentionally do things like run through barn doors. That's why we have the word "accident" in our language.

My Dad was a great carpenter, plumber, electrician and a master mechanic. This weekend will be my ninth Father's Day without him. He loved messing around with mechanical stuff and if he were still here, he would be right there beside my son and myself, working on the tractors, up to his elbows in grease, going to shows and pulls with his tools in case emergency mechanical help was needed.
I think you've got this all sorted out pretty well; be glad you still have him and enjoy those cigars; you'll both have a good laugh over this in the not to distant future.

In an other life, I had to fill out accident reports for individuals that I was responsible for. One of the things you learn, is that accidents are not. Usually, there is a set of conditions that lead up to an accident. Example, someone left their bana peel on the floor. Person steps on bana peel and slips. Was this an accident? No of course not...Even though this is an over simplified example, all so called accidents can be analyzed in this fashion. I am glad that his Dad did not get hurt. He could have been severely injured or worse. Unless we understand the conditions that led up to this unfortunate incident (As I like to call them) we cannot prevent recurrence. The worst possible course of action is to chalk it up to "well accidents are bound to happen."

Claus-
I imagine you are right; I was just trying to express my thoughts in simple everyday terms but certainly don't have the ability to be both as bottom-line factual/analytical and philosophical as you. Not matter what, I still think it fits the category of, for whatever reason, "Stuff" happens.

Glad he is alright!

Wish my Dad wanted to talk tractors, but all he thinks about is fishing.

I don't get it...Ya can't ride a trout....

Time spent fishing doesn't come off your life! Mess with tractors in the morning and go fishing in the afternoon; now, that's a good vacation.

Go easy on him and hand him that Cigar. I'd give anything to be able to talk to my dad. Can't tell you how many times I'd be doing something on my tractor and wish he was around just so I could ask him a question. My dad was a top mechanic. No matter how old we get, we're never ready to let go of your parents. Unfortunately that's not our call. Just enjoy the time you have with your father. Heck, the barn door can be repaired or replaced.
