THANK YOU!!!!! Bought a 1 5/16 box end wrench on the way home and had to drive it onto the crank pulley bolt,(bolt head is chewed up pretty bad). Hit the starter a quick shot and popped it loose. Then I jumped up and down with the joy of success. Glad I live where my neighbors can't easily see me. The cam gear is the fiber type and missing several teeth. Unfortunately, it also appears to be the pressed on type. I pulled on it little bit by hand and pulled the entire shaft out, maybe half an inch and quickly pushed it back. Is there any way to pull this off of the camshaft without tearing the engine down? Any ideas are most appreciated. Thanks, Chuck
PS. I am going to put the timing cover back on since it is now dark and supposed to rain tonight. I'll check back soon! Thanks again!

Chuck: keep at it ol' boy. We're waiting for the next update; baited breath and all.

By the way, does anyone know what "baited breath" is? Is it chewing on trout worms, anchovies, cutworms, and an occasional fly? -9N'er

It is spelled "bated". See def. below from the Oxford English Dictionary. Lowered or lessened in position, amount, force, estimation, etc.; esp. in bated
breath: breathing subdued or restrained under the influence of awe, terror, or
other emotion.

Unfortunately, the down pressure of the valve springs will cause the lifters to "Catch" the cam lobes preventing removal. This may be a good time to lap the valves and check the overall condition of the seats.

Thanks Claus, I have had some valve or lifter noise since I got this tractor and I think you're right. I intend to go ahead and inspect and rework the valves. What about this fiber cam gear!? The teeth that are left feel like I could chip them off with my fingernails. I'm gonna try to find the aluminum alloy for replacement. Fiber gear to cut down on noise?? Please, it's a tractor for heaven's sake! Hope nobody takes offense but this may be one of the reasons that everything else I own is a Chevy. Thanks, Chuck

chuck, according to my fo4 manual, it says that if you have a pressed on cam gear it should be replaced with the bolt on type. unfortunately i think you will have to remove the cam to have a machine shop do it. good luck
