Anthony, You'll want to leave the PTO shaft OFF the tractor and raise the hog so it's input is level with the tractor's output (PTO). This gives you the absolute minimum length the shaft will ever need to be, cut it so there's room for some bouncing and deck tilt adjustment etc. Be sure there will be room to compress the shaft enough to get it over the end of your ORC to hook up when the deck's on the ground. Like earlier posts suggest, cut equal amounts from both halves of shaft. Decide first how much overall shaft length you need to lose, then cut THAT amount from each of the two shaft pieces, NOT HALF THAT LENGTH (assuming the halves are the same length to start with). If you only cut one piece, she's still going to "bottom out" on the piece you don't cut. Think 4 times, measure 3 times, cut once, hopefully ;-o

I had to cut a couple of inches off the shaft sections of my dad's hog with I added an ORC. Make sure you cut an equal amount off both sections of shaft. Cut just enough for what you need for clearance. Not too much.
