Two questions: I have a 1948 8n with a Dearborn 19-42 Loader. It works great! But, the seals in the main booms (not the bucket cylinders)tend to leak...not excessively...but is it hard to replace these seals? I just bought one of those carry-all frames for the rear 3-point. How much weight should I put back there for winter snow removal? Also, after I lift it, do I chain it off and turn off the rear hydraulics...or leave them on? If I leave them on...is this significant drag on the engine while I'm moving snow? If I chain it up....where's a good spot to chain it to? Thanks in advance!

Rick..... ..donna know about yer seals, they are available, check with www.n-news.com for an archived manual for your 19-42 loader for a parts list ..... BUT.....

I sure nuff wouldn't tie up my 3-Point carryall with 500# of ballast, its too usefull and loading and unloading 500# everytime I needed it would be a real PITA or is that PITB?

Anyways, do what everyone else does, make a permament 3-Point ballast with an 11 hole drawbar ($20, cheep) stuck thru 1/2 a barrel full of weights, like scrap iron or concrete.

Or you can get really fancy and build a box and cast concrete around another 3-point carryall frame ($60, cheep).

Or now that it is summer, maybe you can find an already built 3-point counterweight.

I'd use the same "limiter chains" that I use on my 500# brushog. $40 already made up, or DIY with plans made and posted by rossow or tyler(MD), do a search on the N-Board archives..... ....Dell

Dell,

Thanks for the reply! I have already gone out and bout a (second) carry-all. The first one wasn't rated for much and was sorta flimsy. I'll use it for moving all sorts of stuff around in the summer....

The new carry-all is rated for 1000#...already has holes drilled all over it.....just fine. I was just going to get a plastic drim from work...fill it with gravel (which I can always use elsewhere). Come winter...I'd just roll it on the carryall....put a chain around it and go! I was planning on doing the concrete thing..... .but I have ready access to pea gravel/stone...and if need be....could use that during the summer for other projects! I a;ready (now) have two carryalls...so what the heck?

Anyway.....I'm still interested to know how to chain it "up". Do I chain it up...then shut off the hydraulics to the 3-point? I'll check with CT about those "limiter chains". I'm not sure what they'd look like..... Where would such chains be connected? I can't see any (good) fixed points on the rear that are at a good angle to hold.

Rick..... ..limiter chains stretch from the 3-point hitch under the seat, down to the 2 lower arm balls. Due to triangulation, once the chains are notched in place, the arms can not go any lower YET you can raise your hydraulics because the chains collaspe..... ....Dell
