Two dumb questions:

1) Is the cylinder closest to the radiator the number 1 cylinder or the number 4 cylinder?
2) Also, even if you connect the spark plug wires in the incorrect order to the rotor, you will still get a spark through the spark plug wire, right?

1. Cylinder #1 is closest to the radiator.
2. I believe that you will still get spark to that plug, but not at the correct moment to do any good. Firing order is 1-2-4-3 and many here have testified that mixing up 4 and 3 will result in the tractor starting but running mysteriously rough.

The only dumb question is the one you should have asked and didn't: e.g. is that ice thick enough to drive on

Number one is closest to the radiator

Even if the wires are crossed on the cap you will see fire at the plugs

Are you just starting a novel or is there some problem you are in pursuit of?

See Martin's post. Was asking for him. That's why I said they were "dumb" questions. :^)

No offense intended

If you are helping Martin suggest he check for the fiber washer in the distributor and that the copper strip is intact

Your mileage may vary
