Manifold stud loose

I just finished unsticking, cleaning and lapping the valves. I tightened the manifold bolts to the same torque spec the FO4 manual calls out for the head bolts - 55 ft/lbs. Three of the nuts tightened up just fine, but one stud began to turn in the block. How should I fix this? I did not keep tightening, and I'm not sure how much torque I got on the nut before the the stud turned. Should I (can I?) remove the stud and JB weld it back in place? Can I get a replacement stud? How are the studs held in place? Should the manifold bolts be tightened to 55 ft/lbs? I have not found any bolt tightening specs other than the head bolts. Are the rest of the bolts listed somewhere (for example, how tight should the nuts that hold the carb to the manifold be)?

Thanks (and I hope this valve cleaning worked!)

Ron..... ...my Boeing design manual lists 7/16-14 grade 5 at 54 ft/lbs. The correct brass nut 7/16-20 (5/8 hex) torque is 27 ft/lbs.

Are you sure you didn't strip the threads on the stud instead of the block?

I'm not a great fan of heli-coils in high temp situations, my Boeing Machinists used Klein-Serts which have little wedges that they drive in and stake the new thread bushing in place, they never come out.

But I think what I would do is see if I could find a 1/2 NC X 7/16 NF stepped stud. I know such things exist.

If'n unable to find a stepped stud, I would not hesitate to use some stud pucky, J-B Weld would also probably do..... ..Dell

Very unusual for a stud to turn in the block.

If it has the brass nuts on the studs I would think it is more likely that the threads in the nut have stipped out. Put some good cadumium plated nuts on the studs. They won't strip and will be easier to remove the next time someone had to take the manifold off.

If the stud has actually turned in the block,I would remove it and try installing a new stud in the hole. If it still won't hold the best fix is a helicoil insert. The hole will have to be tapped out for the size of helocoil that will fit the new stud.

The manifold will have to be removed to install a helicoil.
