Converting back to 6v?

My 8N is 12 volt and I am considering changing it back to 6 volt, I have found a very good wiring diagram and it seems pretty straight forward to me...is there a 'good' need to go out and purchase a 6v wiring harness. I think I can do ok on my own, although it make take me a bit longer to make up what I need. I am no mechanic, but this doesn't look like too tough a job to me.

For those who wonder why I am considering changing...well, I thought it would be a fun project and a way to learn some more about my 8N...and probably find a few other things to fix on th N while I am at it...plus I don't see a true need to have a 12v system for my use and I don't like the fact that it is sometimes a real pain to fix a 12v problem since there is no standard way to wire it up, since I am not much of a mechanic I thought I would go back to simplicity.

Thanks for you thoughts.

Hi Sal, considered going back to 6 volts a few months ago as I was having all sorts of problems with a botched 12 volt conversion by a previous owner. After watching the board for awhile and searching the archives I finally figured it out, proper resistors and all and rewired the 12 volt correctly. I only stayed with the 12 volt because I use a 12 volt operated sprayer attached to the 3 point. Thought about using a deep cycle marine battery to operate it if I did re-convert. I did have to buy whole rolls of different gauges and colors of wire and crimp on lugs. Of course the lugs only came in blister packs containing many more than I needed so I have enough wire and lugs to wire a couple more N's and my neighbors Allis Chalmers. Oh well !!

I'll bet he'd include a copy of a wiring diagram for free with the harness purchase.

well said sal!

if the 6volt system is wired correctly and clean-bright-tight it should give fewer problems than a 12 volt conversion.

Good for you!
