Okay, I've read the archives (llama, please help) and I'm completely confused on what the consensus is for transmission fluid for the NAA. I've got gear oil for the diff, hydraulic oil for the 3ph, 30w engine oil for the engine. Is the so-called hydro-trans oil okay for the transmission or should I use regular transmission fluid. There is much talk about 9N,2N,8N but what is best for the NAA transmission. I'm going to spend the weekend changing all the fluids in my iron and want to get it right.

Thanks for the help

I have a 53 NAA and I have used the Ford 134 oil in the trans, rearend and lift for the last 25 plus years. Works great. Dealer that I trade with doesn't recommend the 80-90 weight oils unless the tractor leaks too much with the 134. But then you get to fix the leaks when they show up. I also use 40 weight in the engine mixed with a quart of Marvel Oil. And converted to a spin on filter.

I'm in Tracy, just over the hill from the Bay area so I get the heat and the wind.

Use the 80W general purpose gear lube if the climate is relatively warm.

If the climate is cold as a well diger's then I would use 134. 80W does not work well in extreme cold climates. Ford used to recommend diluting the 80W with kerosene when the outside temperature was below zero with a certain measured amount which I don't recall.

New Holland told me to use 80 wt gear oil in my NAA transmission. I'm pretty sure the NAA Ford Owners Manual says so too. When you say 'regular transmission fluid', to me that sounds like you mean the fluid people put in the automatic transmission, which, I'm sure you know, won't work so well in your NAA. But I run 80 wt gear oil, and so far, she has all he teeth.
