Wrong angle on oil filler tube

When I rebuilt my engine, I had to replace my 46 2N block with an 8N block. The only problem I've had is that the cap for the filler tube hits the left tie rod when I turn. Any ideas on a safe way to bend the tube? Also, the end of the tube sits loosely in the block. Is there an easy way to flare the end so it's a tighter fit?
Thanks, Rick

Rick, Are you using the same 2N filler tube, or the short tube for the late 8N. The 9n, thru 8N front mount distributor, used a long tube with a bend in it. The side mount 8N used a short tube with a slight bend in it. You need the long tube, for the 2N. Also, try using an exhaust pipe expander to expand the tube a little and make it fit tighter. If you need a long tube, I have one.
Good luck!!!
Dave

I'm still using the old 2N tube. I'm not at the shop right now, so going by memory, I'd say it's about 14 inches, with about a 20 degree bend. It contacts the rod right at the bottom of the cap. Would the 8N tube fit properly? I can probably find one at the local boneyard. If not, I guess I'll pick up a tail pipe expander and use the heat method.
Thanks Guys, Rick

Why not just take it to a muffler shopp and ask them to expant it a littl. Probably wouldn't cost anything for the 3 min. work.

The location of the fill tube was moved back when they went to side mount dist on the 8N to make room for the generator on that side.My parts book shows both the tube and cap the same from 39 to 52 so it must be the difference in the 8n and 9n front axles causing some clearance problems. Trot down to the local parts store maybe you can find a smaller cap Have them look in catalogs to find one as they often list sizes along with applications.Forget about the modern computerised chain stores because if you cant tell them which car truck you are working on they will be lost. Bending tube is kinda risky but if you want to try it find a pipe or round tube 24 inches or longer that fits down pipe three inches or so gently heat pipe on back side while applying pressure . Kinda hard to explain but heat on the inside of the bend will allow the metal to compress. This is good .Heat on outside of bend will let the metal streatch this is bad. There is a tool for exhaust work called a tailpipe expander maybe its small enough to go inside tube an expand it think KD tools makes one. think they are 20.00 or so handy to have....Big Mike
