Well, what's new? - I have hit my hand with the hammer numerous times over the weekend. Went into the house, swearing and muttering under my breath, about two o'clock on Sat afternoon with blood smeard all over my thumb and pointer finger knuckles, but didn't really notice it until my wife says, WHAT happened to you? Told her my troubles and she just said, so long as you're having fun. So anyway, I have two exhaust valves that I can't get out. It is like the guides are welded to the block! I have the mushroom stems so I can't force them up through the guides. Currently, I have the valves forced open, springs compressed and am holding the valves up with open end wrenches, under the valve top, wedged on top of the block, and I am regularly spraying WD-40 and rust remover on top of the guides. Anyone know of any miracle solutions that I can put on these dudes to get them out? Thanks ahead of time. Chuck

chuck,i had 1 valve that was stuck like that too. what i did was compress the spring as much as i could then took the retainer off the bottom(when you compress the spring it will slide up and off the stem). once you have the retainer off the bottom you can take the spring off. once the spring is off you can pull the valve up as high as it will go and cut it off as low as you can with a hacksaw. then the remainder of stem will come out the bottom.THEN you can take a good size punch and hammer and drive valve guide out thru the bottom. the method i used to compress spring was to pull valve up as high as it would go and hold it, then took saftey wire and looped it around spring and looped other end around a head stud and twisted tight. this enabled the spring to stay compressed enuff so i could get retainer off the bottom. i know this is long and am sorry but i know it can be frustrating so i hope this helps. if you want to you can e-mail me and i'll give you my phone # if you need more help.

THANKS Loads to everyone. Got them both out last night with the help of my neighbor. One was incredibly stubborn. Ended up using two ball joint removal forks and forced the valve up as high as possible which ended up busting the spring retainer clip. Pulled the spring off and then took a side grinder and cut valve in half. then took a deep well sparkplug socket and beat the guide out. Looks like I am buying some valves. Thanks again for all your help! Chuck
