Finally took the time to look at the serial #s for my 8N and my father's 8N

Mine: 8N432253...a '51

His: 8N486797...a '52

I believe his a late '52 based on the shape of the transmission housing...got a picture of the change from Smiths 8N page.

Identifying the year and the serial 3s adds to my interest and fun of these red bellies.

Start crawling around under the tractor collecting date codes. That will give you some idea how "late" your '52 is. I recently posted about a '52 I saw at a tractor show last weekend that had a sn of 8N515408. The axle codes were from Aug 52 and the engine date was from Oct 52. I didn't get the date off the hydraulic cover (under the tractor, next to the drain plug) because it was so covered in crud and I didn't have a rag.

getting all the codes together is my next ambition, I did notice on my N that there is code behind the brake pedals, that seemed odd to me...so i will head back to Smiths page for some more information...thanks
