I don’t know what kind of tractor you got but does it have a differential lock. If so it could be engaged and not releasing and would cause the same problem you are seeing. A differential lock will lock both rear wheels together. The lock is usually engaged by a lever on the left side if you are sitting on the seat by the footplate and it is engaged by the heel of your foot. If it is a 9n,2n,or 8n tractor it will not have a differential lock installed on the tractor.

I went throgh the same thing last year. I broke three out of the four spider gears. It was not as bad of a repair as I thought it would be. It helps to have a "friend" there to lift and balance the left axle housing. There was a lot of little pieces in the diferental housing.

You should take off the left axle and trumpet housing from the differential and examine the spider and side gears. One or more of them has broken or something like that has happened to the differential. It won't get any better and could cause much more damage if you continue to try to operate it this way.

A motor grader does not have a differential so that all wheels will always pull. That is the reason that the front wheels are laid down one way or the other when turning. This gives them traction enough to drag the rear wheels around.

I suspect that the rear differential is damaged and locked up - not allowing differential action when turning

Sounds like you may have welded the rear axles together via improper axle bearing adjustment.
Jack up a rear wheel and see if you can spin the wheel by hand with transmission in neutral.
