A year ago I started the agony of trying to resolve an unpredicatable and erratic 8N. With help from this bulletin board, local mechanics, implement store and friendly farmers I achieved success. It wasn't low or high voltage to the points, it wasn't loose wires, it wasn't the ignition switch, it wasn't the coil, points or condensor, it wasn't the rust in the gas tank. and it wasn't vapor lock.Symptons occurred only on my daughters rough field while mowing. Not at my place nor in the winter. Guessed yet? It was chaff from the tall weeds and grass that were getting into the distributor. I put in an after market dust kit from New Holand and she is clicking them off real nice. If that eventually fails I go to electronic ignition which is not affected by dust. Anyone want to pay the bill at the implement dealer for a $375 diagnosis and new gas filter? No, how about the new gas tank? No, how about the new coil, ignition switch, wiring do over, reostat? Hmmmmm mm it seems my neighbors 9N has similar tendancies while mowing in deep weeds on the horse trails. I wonder if it could be ..... ..... ?
