My 49 with a front mount distributor has a new 12 volt coil and good fuel flow. I recently rebuilt carb, replaced wires, changed points, plugs, condensor, seals, and cap. It has been running great since February. It is around 100 degrees out today. I had been using my N for about 30 minutes to scrape the driveway. It almost sounds like the coil went bad. I tried to restart and it acted like the timing was too advanced. After it cooled, I was able to restart, but lost power and it quit in about 5 minutes. Too hot to tear the distributor down to check the points and coil so I parked it in the shed for now. After I look at the dist/coil, I will see what the archives say. Of course, comments are always welcome.

Its your frontmount ignition coil overheated and shorting out, unfortunately, the only cure is a new one..... ..Dell
