Late last night, I decided to check the N to see if it would start. It tried a few licks, but never caught. The temps went below 90 around 10p, so I thought I would take some voltage measurements again. The one area where I did NOT change any wiring while I was replacing everything earlier this year was in the ignition/resistor area since all this was working (don't fix it if it ain't broke). I only made measurements at the coil, found them low, but things worked anyway. I left it at that. While checking last night, I went to the ignition area to make the measurements. I had higher voltage on the coil side of the resistor than before but not close to being too high. I went back to the coil and found the voltage had dropped. Either I had a very bad connection or something else was wrong. Tucked up under the hood, I found a second resistor!!! This would definitely keep the current low enough to give me poppin' and crackin' if I really have a 12 volt coil. It is a wonder it ran at all, which again makes me suspect the labels on these coils. I remember seeing an ad someone posted where the instructions for the 12 v coil suggested using 2 resistors. I need to get some new connectors and wire to do this right, so I will get back to yas.

Glad you found the problem OK!

It is a shame that the 12volt conversion doesn't have a standard procedure so problems would be easier to find.

Sounds like you found a 12 to 6 volt reducing resistor in addition to the OEM ballast resistor. Can't use 'em both with a 12 volt frontmount coil. Cuz if'n ya do, ya ain't gonna have enuff volts left for sparkies..... ..Dell
