Or, did the 8N ever come equipped with the tubular threaded toplink? Were there more than one version of the flat bar type of toplink? Just curious!

I know for a fact that the 48 8N came with the *&^%$%#&&* flat bar bolted together top link. Try to set up a turning plow with one of those brutes!

How do I know? I used it to plow the day the tractor came to our house to live.

Zane, easy now! I was 10 when we got our 51 8N. Even with the flat bar top link, plowing was a lot easier for me than pulling a trailer plow behind a Farmall.

I have a tubular top link that sounds like what Mountainman is describing. It came with my 850 but I have no idea if it's original to the tractor or not. I'll look closer at it and see if I can find any Ford markings.

I have no idea on this -- but I am sure that good ole' ED GOODING has a full picture and original diagram to indulge our spirits!

Love your collection of stuff, ED.

All Ford N-series tractors came with "flat bar style" top links. Many owners opted for after market tube types.

Can't tell you anything about what Ford may have done, and I don't know if 'present day' toplinks are the same, but my 49 8N came to me with a tubular type top link that looks at least very old if not original. It has a locking lever at the tractor end to keep it where you set it.

N — joy.
