8N Starts Cold--Won't Start Hot--Wrong Fan Blade??

We bought an 8N recently. It heats up after it runs awhile and then does not want to start. We noticed that the fan blows air out through the front of the radiator rather than drawing it in. This is a four blade fan.

Could this be the wrong fan? Do you know where we could find the correct one? New or Used? Also, could it have something to do with thermostat?

Also, have you seen any jubilees on the market? How about a one or two bottom plow?

Some individuals do not like to have hot air blown at them and convert to a pusher fan. On an automobile when you are travelling at speed you would not want the pusher configuration. When you are going slow as in a tractor, it makes little difference. If you suspect the thermostat sticking (shut, the usual failure mode) remove the radiator cap (engine cold) and observe the coolant. After some time when the water reaches temperature, the thermostat should open and you should see water movement in the radiator. (A helthy flow). A lot of factors can cause engine overheating. Some of them are, restricted air movement through the radiator, sometimes caused by debris and mud daubers making nests in the honey comb fins. (Perfect for them buggers). Restricted water movememt through the radiator due to rust and crud in the radiator tubes. Poor heat exchange due to crud and rust in the water jackets. Timing, Overly burdening the engine....and a host of other reasons. Happy Motoring

For tractor sales, go to the classified ads located on the left side of this page.

Push fans are a little less efficient that pull fans but should not hinder operation of the tractor.

Sounds like your trouble might be found in the coil or ignition switch overheating.
