I've been using a 5 footer KK for a few years and works great. Have 1 problem. Because of the chain that connects the rear of the mower to the top link I can only pick up the front of the mower. The rear stays on the ground no matter what adjustments I make. Am I doing something wrong? Also, should I be using a side stabilizer to help with the sway control? Thanks guys.

Check out the attached link; Mine is as pictured and every thing lifts equally... Sure wish I had a stabilizer bar or two though, That thing sure seems to have a mind of its own when I'm tooling down the pasture.

That chain setup allows the back of the mower to lift when the front of the tractor goes up. It also is supposed to make sure back of the mower lifts up when you raise it.

The way it should be setup is to have the toplink adjusted so that on level ground the chain has just a little slack in it. That way the back of the mower can float "down" a little when you crest a hill, but when you pick up the mower, the chain quickly gets tight, and the whole deck lifts.

In Summary, shorten your toplink.

Take Care
Steve

Thanks. Tried that and then the chain rubs across the top of the transfer case on the deck. There is a sort of weak bar on the end of the chain (Rear) that just bends. I think it is intended to help clear the trans. Should I reinforce this bar? Any other Ideas? TY again.

First advice of shortening the top link was correct as well as the advice for chain slack. The chain on my KK 72" finish mower has rubbed on the gear box for years and other than paint wear, no problem, that gear box is tough. The steel strap is way more than needed to lift the top links share of the load, leave it as is, it works just fine, again not to worry about clearing the gear box. If you need professional KK help go to KK's website and e-mail or call.

I agree - that flat stock doesn't like to be put under load by the chain.

I use the horizontal stabilizers and am glad - otherwise that mower would b wagging behind m like a happy dog's tail.

Unfortunately the KK fm-60 seems to be designed for entirely independant motion. It seems necessary that the mower float on its own. The rear support chain is supposed to be loose to mow. This is unlike a rotary mower which requires the tractor hold up its weight.

However, for transport, I disconnect the PTO shaft, and take a spring loaded D clip to take up the slack on the mower chain. Then I can use the three point hitch to keep the mower up.

My .02: I use a 6 foot KK on a 2N with a somewhat "taught" top link chain, and it works fine. I use one stabilizer bar, and since i have to kick it pretty good a number of times to get the stabilizer bar on, I end up with a really rigid mower deck with virtually no sway. This setup works really fine and I get a good cut with little sway and little scalping. Gbest of luck, John
