"I put my 2N up last fall. I drained the fuel tank and put oil in the cylinders. I charged the battery, but it will not start. I checked the coil, but found no power. I had 6 volts to one side of the switch, none on the other. No power at the ballast resistor. I ran a jumper from the battery to the coil and it still won't start. Any suggestions as to what to check next? Thank you, in advance, Tim."

Tim,
If you have power to one side of the switch and none to the other, it would lead me to believe that the switch is bad. You need to start at the battery and check all connections. Make sure they are clean, tight and bright. Work your way to each component in line and test it. You might have fried your coil when you ran a jumper from the battery directly to it.
If the tractor cranks and you have no spark, you must check:
1. Keyswitch and wiring(don't know where the cutout fits in all this)
2. Ballast resistor
3. Coil and wiring
4. Points and condensor
5. Plugs and plug wires On a tractor that has been sitting for an extended period of time there is the problem of the carburetor being gunked up with gasoline residue(varnish) that can clog the orifices and jets. If you can get spark and still no start, remove and thoroughly clean the carb with solvent and compressed air.

Tim..... .Other than the fact that you can't get your 2N started, I can't make much sense out of your "helpful hints". This site doesnot charge by how many words you use to describe your problem or what you have checked out. I flunked mindreading, just ask my ex-wife..... ...Dell

Dell sure is a mean old son of a bear.... don't let him get you down he can probably tell you just what's wrong, but I totally agree. I have no idea what all this means. I think I need a compass to understand it?

Since I assume English is not your first language and since your English is a lot better than my German? Let me suggest a longer post. Site doesn't charge by the word.

Couple of questions: is the tractor still six volt? What voltage do you show at the coil top post with the points open and with the points closed. Are points set at .15? Can I assume no fire at the plugs?

More information and somebody will surely have the answer.
