I think I can......

I have a 2N with Sherman tran. The control lever pin came out which doesn't allow one to shift the unit up or down. The lever will come completely out. I have replaced the starter, radiator, head gasket, rebuilt carb, and completed tune-ups, but after looking at the procedure to repair the lever..... should I? Or maybe I should ask is it really worth it and let well enough alone?
Then again I have all you folks that will help, if you think I can do it. All I've read indicates it is not that difficult. I have always been able to re-assemble something taken apart, but splitting the tractor in half seems rather drastic. Sounds like I've already decided.
I have you all and my FO4 on order.

First Question-What parts will it take besides the pin and trans. oil?
Thanks

Russ, it is a pretty simple procedure to split the tractor where you need to. The hardest part was getting it lined back up when I put it back together. I pulled and rebuilt the engine and I don't have an engine hoist. But I have an overhead chain hoist and between that and some straps I was able to work it into place. But, you will probably have the front wheels still in place, so you will be able to roll it back. You will want to rig up something on wheels to support the back half of the engine. A floor jack might work, but it would not be too difficult to rig up a dolly of sorts to carry the weight on wheels. Might be a little more stable than a floor jack. Once you get inside it is really simple to work on these machines. Hey, if I can do it, anyone can!

Good luck and keep us posted!

you won't need to drain the trans oil the sherman is forward of the main trans. splitting the tractor isn't all that hard to do and while it is split you can see if the clutch or ring gear needs replaced. i'm not sure if it is possible to remove starter and reach in there somehow and fix it. maybe someone else has some info on that. good luck
