Always nice to know these things when sourcing parts . All of the tractor places only list .040 under. Will have to get the auto parts house a try for these...thanks again

Actually you end up with less bearing surface area as the crank gets smaller. Bearing speed is reduced as diameter is reduced this is good for a high reving engine (8000rpm plus) but not a factor in a low rpm engine such as tractor motor. The bearings are thicker but the surface area is what carrys the load and the smaller the journal the less area. All of this stuff is important when building an all out race engine but a N motor is a low compression ratio low rpm engine. I agree with the advice given earlier that a properly ground crank will be fine at .060 under. I would like to know the source or manafacturer of .060 under bearings as all I see are .040 under. I have a crank or two that need to go to .060 under to be able to use them..... ..... ...Big Mike

Hey Big Mike,
My .060" under's were Clevite 77, which I believe is a Dana product if memory serves. They were a little pricey. About $90 for mains and rods. Also, they are not aluminum coated like most. They are just bare copper alloy. Didn't bother me or the engine. Been working great.

That's a bigger bearing mass, should keep the crank crankin' smooth. 8O)
