I just purchased my first tractor, its a 1941 9N! My question is as follows: The throttle linkage appears to work correctly (carb linkage goes from idle to full throttle) when the engine is not running but when I start the motor it will only idle and appears to hang up at the govenor. The throttle linkage at the carb does not move like it does when the motor is off? Thanks for any help.

Follow the link from the crank end of the throttle lever to the governor. There should be a spring visible that is tightened when the throttle is advanced. If this spring is broken or is unhooked on one end the governor will not operate the throttle on the carburetor. The spring must progressivly tighten as the throttle is advanced.
