I have read through the archives and here is what I have come away with:

1. Lead additive, some use it some don't, since the 8N has hardened seats no real need to use it.

2. Marvel Mystery oil, some use about a cup??? with a tank of gas to keep things free.

3. But what about fuel treatments...to remove water and keep varnish away...are these additives safe for a 8N?

Thanks.

Stabil gas treatment is great for tractors, chain saws, generators, anything that may sit for awhile without being run.-----Michael

It is best no to put anything in your fuel or oil. The only people who recommend additives are the ones that manufacture them and those that have used them and attribute some performance increase to them. All automotive manufacturers will specify no additives are to be added to their fuel. Todays lubricants and fuels are highly developed products and will give you everything your engine needs.

Sal..... ...every fall I use a product called "stabil" gas addidtive to prevent gummin from forming in gas tank in all my mowers, tillers, grinders, sprayers, 8N. I then run the carb dry. Never had a gunked up carb. In spring I will put some dry-gas in.

BUT I do NOT use any lead subsititues, not needed but you can if'n it makes you feel good..... ..Dell

Sal.,, I don't use any lead additives, or any gas
treatments. However, I do use one item, and that is the Yamaha Ring Free fuel additive. This very good product I have used for about 13 years in my 8N. When I bought it, it had some carbon buildup and since I have used this item in my 150 hp Yamaha outboard with no problem with carbon buildup, I am glad I use this on the tractor. The spark plugs have never show any carbon and looks clean. My 8N starts without any choking and it did require this before I started using Ring Free.
You can buy it at marine stores that sell Yamaha outboards. It comes in 12 oz. black bottles at a cost of $7.99. One oz. will do 10 gals.
Or you can also buy Mercury QuicKleen engine treatment, it will do a good job also. The Yamaha is the best. You will thank me when you start useing.....

Skeeter, I am sure the product is good, but I am not sure I could convince myself that I wanted to add 80 cents a gallon to my fuel costs.

Is it really worth that much?
