A friend of mine has an 8N that he is fixing up. He says there is a hole in the wall between the transmission and the diferential. It was plugged with a wooden plug. What should be there?
Thanks, Steve

what zane said is true. but not alot of oil reachs the linkage. tends to make linkage go bad over the years. on 9-n it will

There is a rather crude hole at the top of the ring gear on the 8N tractor and I assume on the other Ns too. It was left there so that oil could in theory be thrown up onto the lift parts when the tractor is moved fast down the road to lubricate the parts of the lift.
Some body just didn't like the looks of that rough hole in the casting and decided it was broke and decided to fix it. Don't worry, be happy!
