I found this email from Dale Gass
CEO, Pantellic Software, Inc. in my inbox tonight. I thought you all might be interested.
----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- --

Dear Members,

I am very pleased to announce some exciting changes at PhotoPoint.com.

Many people have expressed fears about the future of PhotoPoint.com in light of the many closures, layoffs, and changes that are occurring at other photo sites. The recent changes at PhotoPoint.com ensure a long and stable future for the site and your photos.

Until now, PhotoPoint.com has been owned and managed by PhotoPoint Corp (USA), but developed and maintained by Pantellic Software Inc. Pantellic was the original creator of the site, and back in 1999, sold the intellectual property of the site to PhotoPoint Corp.

Pantellic Software is proud to announce that on July 17th, we re-acquired the rights to the site, allowing us to continue to develop and maintain the site as we have been, but also letting us set the future direction, based upon our daily contact with the membership. You can view our press release at:
Link

I would like to apologize for any uncertainty that our members may have experienced during the transition of ownership. Your photos, albums, and memberships were never at any risk of loss. The safety and integrity of our members' photos has always been, and will continue to be, our number one priority. We understand how important your photos are to you.

We want to assure our members that we will honour all existing paid memberships and trial accounts. In addition, in appreciation of your patience and loyalty during this period of uncertainty, we will be extending the term of existing paid memberships by two months.

In the future, we plan to make the site even better. We know the success of the site hinges on the satisfaction of you, the members of PhotoPoint. We will be counting on your comments and suggestions about our features and services to help us make the right changes and enhancements to the site. We would encourage members to send any constructive feedback or suggestions to suggestions@photopoint.com.

I apologize for our delays in communicating these events of the past week to you. As you can appreciate, the transition of ownership has been very hectic for us, and during private negotiations, one's ability to make public statements can be limited.

I want to personally thank you for your loyalty. All of us in the Pantellic Family look forward to continuing to make PhotoPoint.com the greatest and safest place in the world to store and share your photos.

Sincerely, Dale Gass
CEO, Pantellic Software, Inc.

If anyone is successful in contacting Pantellic Software or PhotoPoint, PLEASE let me know, too!
Like everyone else, I lost irreplaceable pictures of friends and family, including a riding buddy killed 9/11 aboard flight 175.
Thanks!

New info posted @ http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1005-200-8398159.html?tag=ch_mh

January 7, 2002, 2:35 p.m. PT The parent of online photo site PhotoPoint.com shut down last month and is liquidating its assets, but it expects to announce a plan to return photos archived with the service within one or two weeks, the company's president said Monday.

"While Pantellic has ceased operations, we are actively working on a solution for people to get copies of their photos," Pantellic President Dale Gass wrote in an e-mail. "There will be an announcement at www.photopoint.com, and members will be notified via e-mail when this is available."

Gass' statement is a rare public communication from privately held Pantellic since the PhotoPoint site was pulled down without notice in mid-December. The shutdown left some 1.25 million PhotoPoint members in the dark about the status of their accounts and personal files, offering a cautionary tale of the evanescent nature of business in cyberspace.

I have spoken with several people who use other on line services for photos. The highest rtecommendation comes from a Kodak site called www.ofoto.com It is not a nice as photopoint was but it is the next best thing, and they are up and running!! I am so glad I only downloaded and didn't keep that as a permanent site for my photos. But now I have tons of disks with my photos! Geez! Will it come back, you think???

When is Photopoint coming back to us? I really like the way my albums are displayed & missed being able to access my albums. I've been trying to access my photopoint albums for the past week with no success. I emailed you & didn't get an answer. We finally found an update on webferret. Now, I know why I couldn't get through. I look forward to having Photopoint back again & better than ever.

While waiting for this mess to get resolved, can anyone e-mail me a photo site that will allow WebTv users to submit photos via e-mail? I would also like one that has resizing tools and cropping tools. I had just paid on November 18, the $19.95 to upgrade with Photopoint as they told me I couldn't use their service unless I did. I am not a happy camper. Sally Please e-mail me with information!! Thanks. And, has anything been done to get our money back? EZ Prints won't allow WebTv users to submit photos via e-mail so it does no good that the good-hearted PhotoPoint sent my account to them!!!

Help! I am completely in the dark!!!! Does this mean that I have lost all 1200 or so of the pictures that I had on photopoint? Can I ever get them back again???? Did they send them anywhere else where I can retrieve them? I don't mind paying.... Paying is less important than the lost memories of all the trips I had on that site--trips which started with my daughter as a 5-year old--she is now 11.

What a disaster!

Any help or advice would be most appreciated!!!!

Uh...OK; as of 12-14-01 where do we go from here on "Photo Point"?

Seems like the 'new owners' took a bunch of newly (and fradulently) acquired money and left town, eh?

Does anyone know the answer to the questions about what happened to our pictures on photopoint...and what we can do about getting them from somewhere new? Thanks for any help that is offered.
