Oil pressure on my 2 N runs high (80 lbs) when cold and drops to about 20 lbs when warm. I have removed the releif valve spring and plunger. Both seemed to be free but the ball on the plunger has a small flat spot on it. Is this normal or is it wear? Can I put the bolt back on and start the tractor without the relief valve installed to see if the pressure is low. If so then it would probably be the spring and plunger causing the problem. Any information would be appreciated.

Do not run the engine with the relief valve removed from the engine. You might ruin the crankshaft.I think you have a false reading on the gauge. The original gauge has only 60 lbs regestered on it if I am not wrong.
The flat spot on the relief valve is factory designed to be there. I think it is to allow some oit to leak by and oil the cam gears. I do know for a fact that the notch is designed into the relief valve plunger. I used to be a Ford parts man and have had many people come in and want a new plunger because the one in their tractor had a notch on it.I would have to go to the shelf and get a new one and show them that it also had the notch to convince them.
Don't worry about the high oil pressure and the 20lb hot is plenty.
