Question #1 My 1950 8n has radius arms with an arch shape to them (loader on tractor) should these be straight? Q#2 Short Block for tractor. Can I swap over to a rebuilt(side mount dist.)short block, and keep the same head, intake/exhaust manifold and all the other external stuff?? -minus a distributor of course

They should be straight. This is one of the prolems, (right side bent) that can causes the number 2 terminal of the distributor to break. The generator mounting as well as the generator are different on the side mount block since it mounts on the left side of the tractor. Head and exhaust manifold are identical. If you obtain a generator from the bone yard get the matching VR since the current coil on the later model is set for 20 amps.

Thank you Claus for you input. I thought those arms should be a little straighter. I have a couple more Q? please if you wouldn't mind. Have you ever heard of the axle pin being replaced by a piece of pipe welded into the front support ? I have everything apart and was intending to replace the pin, but it appear to be a welded pipe with some copper sheeting wrapped around it as a bushing? All the spacers in the diagram are missing as well?
Last Q? now that I have the tractor so far apart, where is the best place to get a resonable short block or is there anyone who has a good (non oil burning) motor for these 8n's. CT wants 1500 for a short block and Jasper wants 1800 to rebuild the one I take out?? was hoping to do it for 1000 or less?
