Well I said the chances of another call was very probable. The 6 to 12 volt is fine, but can you believe after all the work to convert, the head gasket has blown between 1 and 2 cylender. I pulled the head and intend to take it to a machine shop. What type of head gasket should I use and does it require sealent? Thanks

I too am in the process of replacing a head gasket for early Ford 8N. Not quite sure as to kind of sealent to use, I purchased Copper-a- Gasket [the kind that is in a spray can ] can anyone advise to what to use? I had the head shaved down, hope this was not the wrong thing to do. By the way I think the gasket is either steel or aluminum with a sandwich of what appears to be paper in between. Isaac

The composition head gasket from Ford New Holland is my preference. Better ability to take up any small deviations in surfaces. Put the gasket down dry. If you have studs no need for any sealer. If you have bolts I would put a little puckey on the threads of any bolt that goes into water. Torque it per the F O 4 spec and you ought to be fine.

Your mileage may vary
