I have sent this twice and it didn't go through, so here goes again. My 2N runs 80 lbs of oil pressure when cold and 20 lbs when warm. I have pulled the relief valve spring and plunger. They seemed free. The ball on the end of the plunger did have a flat spot on it. Is this normal? Can I put the bolt back on and start the tractor without the relief valve spring and plunger? If the pressure is low then it would indicate the relief valve is malfunctioning. Is this safe? I don't know much about this so any information will be ap

i would recommend that you put a new plunger, spring and gasket on it

Is your browser OK?? Zane gave you an excellent reply, unless there are two Ron C's with the same question.

Providing you don't have molasses for oil and/or a faulty gauge I would say you have oil pressure to be proud of. Normal conditions with normal oil and temperature, 25# would be normal oil press. Put the relief valve and spring back as it was, it is operating or press would not fall so much when warm, Yes there is normally a flatter spot on the end of the plunger.

Check to see that the OIL LINES going into your CANISTER FILTER are free of gum and deposits: For twenty years, I ran a minuature train operation with locomotives powered by 2N/8N motors and the "high oil pressure" problem at starting temperatures was usually due to a buildup of sludge in the oil lines near the canister (of course, we also learned that an old 2N/8N/9N motor can run on near-ZERO oil pressure with strictly "volume over flow" oil pressure and a crankshaft so scored up you'd be afraid to even START the engine in a "modern" application.)

MARVELOUS motors, they are!
