Once had access to high temp paint for exhaust manifold with heat range up to 1800 degrees. No longer avail re lacquer base. Is there a good high temp paint available? Also would be interested in high gloss enamel paint for same application.

My E Type Jaguar has ceramic coated exhaust manafolds. Expensive European autos until about the late 60s and early American premium autos (flathead Cadillac/Lincoln V-8) used this process. I've had my E manafolds redone once after a too lean mixture crazed the (burned the valves too) ceramic surface.

Hemmings Motor News and restoration magazines will have addresses for outfits that will do this. Several colors are available - black, brown, dull green, dull red, etc. It is expensive, but on an N it will last forever.

Talk about a diamond in a goat's a**!

Look in your yellow pages under "powder coating", they can match about any paint color. Not cheap but near permanent.

Funny you should ask.

Just yesterday installed a manifold that I had painted. Paint used was Dupli-Color High Heat Ceramic rated at 1200 degrees. It doesn't require baking as some other paints. The color is a little too red to match-up with the NH red, but was better than green.

On my initial run yesterday, the paint turned color (darkened) back near the exhaust pipe. Up front, however, it retained it's color. To be honest, I didn't expect much more than I got. It was an old manifold, and the tractor hasn't been refinished; just spotted here and there. But I do plan on stripping and repainting it. And thought it was a good expiriment.

I'm interested in the results you obtain, and experience you have on painting manifolds. Are we dreaming? Is it really possible to get paint to stay on a hot manifold? Somehow, I doubt it.

Good luck, and would appreciate you keeping me up to date here on by e-mail.

Best regards, -Gale-

I've heard many good things said about a high temp paint called "jet coat". I've never used it myself.
