Buddy rebuilt a G moline (he has a lot of old tractor restoration under his belt) It will start if pulled, and the engine will run at the throttle setting (high low or idle) However as soon as you let out the clutch, it acts like is runs out of gas. (You can flood it with the choke) He rebuilt the mag and it has a long strong spark. Any ideas?
MM Oil in the clys to up the compression?
Second, same buddy was given a Sears tractor, supplier said it was a 1926 anyone know anything about them? Thanks

Sounds like it may be a fuel starvation problem.

Also when any engine is timed so the the ignition is way too late it will cause it to be very sluggish. Try timing it so that the ignition is earlier. Don't try to hand start an engine though that the ignition is to early on because it can break a bone when the engine trys to run backwards while cranking.

Sears was selling David Bradley implements in the 20's. The only tractor I've actually had experience with from Sears is the Graham Bradley, but it was in the late 30's and was only sold for 2-3 years. A description of the tractor would be helpful in ID'ing it.

As far as the M/M, have you checked compression, timing, firing order, governor linkage, throttle lnkage, etc?

rbell,

Sounds kind of like the time I rebuilt the carb for my 8N. The supplied main jet was way to small so that without load the engine ran like a champ fast or slow. The moment I added a load like letting out the clutch in gear it would stall. I put the old main jet back in and everything is fine now. Could he have reversed the jets or something?
