I took a job of restoreing an 8N for a guy. A buddy of mine looked at it and said it had a Furgason rear end and transmission on it. The casting does have a HF on it. Is this good? Does it hurt the value? Or is it a no no? The guy wants it completely restored to the last bolt and nut. Any input from you all will be appreciated. Later

We bought a parts tractor that was an 8N motor and transmission bolted to a TO-20 rearend. It was a running tractor that someone put together and used. The brake pedals are round on a T0-20 as opposed to the rectanguler ones on the 8N. Best fiqure out what you have to start with as a pieced together one is ok for a working tractor but if the guy wants a restored show tractor it best be all 8N parts or all T0-20 parts..... ..... ..Big Mike

Well, it would be hard to restore an 8N if it doesn't have an 8N rear-end, now wouldn't it.

Are you sure it is an 8N? Maybe it is a TO20, which looked very similar to the 8n, as well as having interchangable parts, as you can see.

If the radiator cap comes through the hood, probably an 8N. If it doesn't, you might have a TO or TE 20 Fergusson.

Ed, Thanks for the come back. The owner isn't aware of this. Not being familiar with these tractors I will have to look this morning when I go to the shop. Thanks again. Later

Guys, It is an 8N motor and tranny. 8N is cast in the block just below the starter. Tranny has it on it, too. Just the rear end is Ferguson. Thanks for the manuel info. That is about the first thing I do is get all the manuels I can find on a tractor before I go into it. I'll see what the owner wants to do. Thanks again. Later
