Could anyone tell me what Ford steering boxes will fit on my 8n? Mine has been cobbled with a saginaw pickup truck box and I'd like to make it at least look original. Anybody have one for sale at a reasonable price?

There are two types, the early one and the late one that is adjusted with screws on both sides. The later one was implemented on serial number 216989...

Claus i have a 49 8n 212854 and it has the old style of steering box without the the adjusters.
Are you sure about the s/n that they changed on?
If you are right,then has my box may been changed,but i thought that the newer style of boxes had the pitman arms coming out reversed so that they would not fit.

Am I sure? No... That is what the FO-4 Manual states on page 20. I have serial number 8N-243167 and it has the late model steering. You never know when you buy a used tractor what is original and what has been replaced. Happy Motoring

my tractor steering box is worn out. this is my first tractor i have just rebuilt the motor. the steering is gone what can i do to repair it. any help will be appricated. vinc

Hey Dave, where is the wire to your starter switch? Did you bypass it so that it will start in gear?

Yup, I'm a bad,bad boy )-: The switch crapped out, so I by passed it with a new key switch, I guess I should fix it before I run my big butt over one of these days !(-:

Do not know about the upgrade sn but the old box can be replaced with the newer box. I have sn 8N 131379 and it has been upgraded to the newer box. Much improvement. fwiw, ray

I believe the 600 series will fit but has longer steering shaft.
