I know one of you knowledgable folks out here must have the answers to just about any Q? asked, so please, if you could assist me with some information?!! I have a few question on doing some work on my 8N.I have the old front mount oil burning luger out of my tractor and I am buying a sidemount shortblock. From what I have read, the engines, head, carb, manifold and oil pan are the same except for the front gear cover which the sidemounted distributor now resides in.Are there other items that make this engine block different?

Now for a few more repair Q's?

1.)Is there a site that sells all the nuts and bolts for these 8N's? Hood to Dash- bolts and side skirt lower bottom bolts to look like OEM? 2.)Where does the coil mount on a 51 side mount 4cylinder?
3.)Do I have to buy a special 12 volt coil or can I ask for one at my local auto store.(I have the GM single wire alternator on my 12 volt conversion).Does this also require resistors in line like the front mounted coil?
4.)I notice there are two different clutch disks (regular and HD) Which should I purchase?? 5.)Do the later model engines (51 & 52) have higher compression pistons or is there a way to gain a slight increase by deck planing the head slightly? If so how many thousandths. Also would it be possible to deck plane more on just the cylinder side rather than the valve area?

I have to ask these Q? just SO I KNOW. They may sound stupid, but I feel comfortable sharing the obvious with you good folks.

One other difference:
Because the generator was mounted on the left side to clear the distributor, the oil fill had to be moved to the rear on the later blocks. Maybe with an alternator it won't matter to you where the filler is located.

A couple of months ago someone posted about planing a head in the manner you mentioned but you would have to check the archives to find out more about it.
