Ok, I hope I'm not being "layne" here.

The farm has changed over the years from 1 cow & 1 horse to just a dog & cat. Whereas I only mowed the fescue when it was 2 feet tall, now I keep it like a lawn. It's aprox 10 somewhat rolling acres I am grooming.

I keep thinking about adding front wheels on the Hog so I can drop it level and quit gouging the ground at all the rises and turns. I know it will still have hog blades. What I am thinking of is adding 2 wheels on the front corners I can remove if needed. I want it at a fixed height just so the edges don't touch the ground. I have ideas how to do it.

Questions: 1. Am I the first to wonder this? (I doubt it)
2. Any inventions/mods out there to cure this?
3. Is it usless due to the low clearance of the bush hog sides?(to keep projectiles inside)

Saw just the thing you need the other day. Outfit here sells a thing called a "Scorpion". Basically it is a bush hog with the square corners bobbed off. Four blades instead of two. Four "crazy" wheels, one mounted on each corner. Either a light duty bush hog or heavy duty finish mower. $735 I think the man said. Looked at it and saw me mounting two front wheels to my hog for a lot less then $735 and getting close to the same result. I suppose I could even mount two more blades but do not believe it is necessary, like you I am satisfied with the cut just want to get rid of the scalping.

Just buy you a little Massey pony with a belly mower and thats all you'll ever need! lol I used 4 wheels from a woods finish mower on my King Cutter and it works good. Looks like a mega finish mower!

Have you tried using limiter chains? They sell for $20 and work well for me. They keep the front of the hog a fixed minimum distance from the ground and prevent gouging and scalping! Just a thought.I suppose you would also want to sharpen the blades to a finer edge for a cleaner cut. My own $0.02.

I am using a 641 with very stable hydraulics.
The height stays fine at the back of the tractor.
It is the hills and turns that I want to beat.
Hoping to support the 2 front corners so I can let it articulate front to back. Loosen the top link. I suppose with the "2 point" hitch (and PTO) it will still dig if I cut too sharp. It is a 5 footer.
Blades are sharp, not worried about the cutting, just the rising and falling due to the Tractor going up/down hills.

In the Army I drove a Gamma Goat. That thing articulated front to back and side to side, like a big earth mover. Don't think I want to go that far!

Fairly large(~6" dia or so) pneumatic tires from TSC with 4 hole mounts & swivels built in.
Angle iron or channel bolted & welded to front top of hog- same axis as tractor axles. Possibly square tubing to slip into larger square tubing for removal if heavy mowing called for. U-bolt large square tubing to channel, then slip in smaller tubing with pins to secure. My vision is wheels stick out the sides of the front of hog. Just to allow hog to ride on front wheels and rear wheel with top link loose or disconnected.

When I install a certain model of Laser Imager at work I have to remove 2 packing parts from the optics module. They are PVC sch 40 about 18" X 1 1/4". The PVC has been cut length wise and a 3/4" or so gap runs the length of the pipe. I have thought of installing some on the bottom edges of the hog deck where it digs in to make it smoother.
This would be prototype only as PVC would not take to rocks & such. 45 degree or so bend at front to give sort of "sled" curve.

I think of this while mowing.
TOO many other projects going on now!
