An aluminum dash arrived on Monday from a fella who had one sitting in his barn for a number of years. Seems like he purchased it for a fellow tractor enthusiast several years ago but the friend never showed up to purchase it. It's now sitting on my bench and it's a dandy. Looks like the ol' 9N restoration is taking another step forward and the remaining list of original parts is shorter now thanks to William. Let's see..... .. what's left to find is a left bucket for C.M. HAll lights, original working gauges, battery hold down, and the dummy ignition light for the dash. Questions that perplex me is the generator type for a mid-year 1940 9N. I have both types sitting on my shelf (the small and larger generator), and smooth rear hubs or hot riveted rear hubs. From what I can tell from photos those items are difficult to determine when they showed up during the assembly line and consequently what dates or range of serial numbers they were added on or phased out. Anyways, just an update for those following my progress over the past year and a half on this 9N restoration. I hope to do a purist no-no, and buff and polish just the flat of the 9N dash for a close to mirror like look. Although not a standard cosmetic thing on the originals I kind of like the idea of adding some of my own originality to this project. And I did see a photo of an early 9N that Henry Ford ordered to polish the front hubs, rear hubs, dash, and hood. It was done this way for a publicity photo opportunity. 9n'er
